my road to success

GE1401 University English
Assignment 2: My road to success
Name: Li Wanqi (Anna)
Student ID: 52638890

Talking about success, the first question that jump into my mind is the definition of success. As for me, success cannot only be defined by wealth and reputation. It is a satisfying life that one finally achieves through a long period of hardworking.
From my perspective, the road to success can be divided into three steps: finding, striving and keeping.
I think that the first thing to do to achieve one’s goal is to aim a correct destination. Otherwise, it is too easy to lose one’s way. And only within the right destination can we try to find a shortcut to it. Here I would like to mention my favorite film director, Luc Besson, seldom do people know that he dreamed of being sailors when he was a little boy. However, an unexpected accident happened. Luckily, he wasn’t knocked down, instead of a farfetched dream, he found his real destination.
Setting up a right destination may not be easy. We should consider both our interests and ability. As for me, I love stories and would love to take up movies as my career.
After finding our destinations, the next step is to strive. This can be the toughest process on the road to success. ‘Great works are performed not by strengthbut by perseverance.’And there are endless example that we can find from famous people. Even the father of music, Bach, was not accepted by the audience when he first found the well-tempered theory.
The worst thing isn’t failure itself, but whether we can stand up again if we fell down sometime. I know that the way to the film world can be tougher than I ever imagined. However, I hope that I can have the courage to accept frustrations.
If we are lucky enough to finish the first two steps, we can come to the last step of keeping. From my point of view, it is something about our attitude. There is an old saying, Content is happiness. That is the reason why I think we should have a humble attitude and a peaceful mood when we arrive at our destination of success.

Why I write?

It is a gloomy rainy day. I am now sitting in front of the window, writing.
It has been 20 years since I graduated from the School of Creative Media. And now I am a story-teller. Every day, I have at least two stories to write, one in life, one by pen. I share my words. Then people always come up with a question,‘Why you write?’.
It is not an easy question to answer, since writing is always regarded as a time-killing stuff. As for me, the strongest power that forced me to sit on the chair and take up the pen is that writing allows me to create a new world, the one which is totally dominated on my own. For example, it is raining outside. Unfortunately, I hate the wet atmosphere so that I made the girl under my pen to play under the sunshine. From my perspective, it is such a pity that we can only be the same person during our whole life time. However, within my writing, I am not only a writer, but also the superhero that saved the world, the blind tuner who fell in love with a dancer, and even the brave panda which escaped from the zoo. I enjoy the freedom that writing gives me, in deed.
Another reason for me to write is that writing record things. Never can we deny that we have some other more direct and convenient ways to record things nowadays. Therefore, writing is special, it not only record moments, but also preserves feelings. For instance, when I look at the photos I took on my high school graduation day, they remind me of my friends’ smiling faces. Nevertheless, when I opened my diary, I brought that moment back to life. I felt what I was feeling, the fear of leaving the tower of ivory as well as the expectation for the entire new life.
After taking the MBTI test, I discovered more about myself. I am an ESFP-type person. In a word, I have a quite sensitive and emotional personality. That’s the reason why I am good at discovering those little trivial moments around me. All these stories that I have found in my life greatly influenced the way I write. The stories under my pen may not have very strong narrative, but they are warm enough to remind me of all those little moments as well as move the readers. Through my own words, I’ve realized what I value the most in my life is happiness. Therefore, writing became part of my life, inspiring me, directing me and encouraging me.
There are not too many reasons for me to write. Only the freedom that writing can give and the old moments which words can bring back to me are enough. Regardless of the gloomy weather, I bow my head, continuing my story, one in life, one by pen.
